Joe Wizard is the stage name for the Canadian white rapper Joseph K P. He has been an underground Hip Hop/Rap recording artist since 1997 producing and writing his own material. Joe’s original style of production, combined with a creative rap flow, and explicit but realistic lyrics, make him an undoubtedly respected asset to the Canadian Hip Hop culture.
There are very few artists with the mind state of this mature man who has been through a lot and expresses it in a format that can be acknowledged as impressive and outstanding. Joe’s determination to make it as an independent artist in a struggling Canadian music scene gave him the motivation to do things his way and get experience from all aspects of the industry.
Early Life and Career of Joe Wizard
Joe Wizard was born in down town Toronto and spent all of his childhood in metro housing buildings with his single Mother.
Interested in rapping from a young age, Joseph picked up a passion for freestyling, beat boxing and break dancing in 1991. His strong feelings for the art became an obsession as he recognized his talents and wanted the opportunity to show the World. Unfortunately there were no demands for a white Canadian rapper in those days so Joe was always over looked in talent shows and performances which then became the birth of an angry and anti-social individual.
Finally Joe got sick of watching other kid’s get the opportunity to record songs in studio’s and make songs and albums so he decided to make his own home studio. In 1997 Joe started producing beats on his Yamaha Keyboard karaoke and two mics under the alias "Milk Man". After selecting from his library of beats, Joe made his first demo cassette called “A Light In Darkness” which consisted of very dark and vulgar concepts as it was a way for Joe to express his feelings threw music.
Joe then became a father of a little girl in 1998 which changed his outlook on life and had a new perspective of the music he was making. As time prevailed Joe would make upgrades to his studio and enhanced his skills behind the computer to make tracks on recording programs. His second debut demo-album premiered in 2001 named ”The Ending Is Just Tha Begining” as Joe was searching for a place to stay because he found himself residing in a shelter, but that was not for long. He duplicated that album and pressed on a catchy gold label on the Cd then sold numerous copies to make first and last months rent.
Joe Continues His Development
Joe’s goals never changed he always wanted to be that super star rapper/producer so he kept working hard in his home studio on producing beats and recording tracks to further develope his music. By 2003 Joe had made another demo-album called "Out Of Da Blue” but by this time the rap scene went through white rappers like Vanilla Ice, Kish, Third Bass, and O.R none of them resembled Joe at all. Then a huge break for white rappers came with Slim Shady but again Joe was not at all like this new image presented by record companies. So Joe would continue to signify his presence in the underground Hip Hop scene and wait for his time to shine because he felt like he did not want to change his music to become famous with a major label.
During the process of “Out Of Da Blue” Joe took a track from “The Ending Is Just Tha Beginning” and had one of his friends that was a producer with access to a higher quality studio to remake the production and Joe made his first hit single “Lifestyles”. This would encourage Joe to start the creation of his first professional album called “The Beginning”. With lack of management and promotions Joe was stuck doing everything himself so he teamed up with a couple of friends and made a label called “4 Stages Entertainment”.
To make a long story short Joe was still left doing everything himself, recording albums, developing artists, getting shows, and promoting events it was a by far a lop sided company. By this time it was 2005 and Joe had finished the production and recording of “The Begining” but because of the lack of funds the album was put it on hold as it needed to be mixed and mastered.
Joe’s Test
Then in 2006 it hit him, Joe’s worst nightmare came true as his Ulcerative Colitis he had been fighting since 1999 had become very close to turning into Cancer and he needed surgery immediately. This test of Joe’s willpower was incredible as the only thing he requested to have in the Hospital well recovering was a laptop to continue producing with, paper, and pencil to continue making music.
During the year of 2006 Joe had two surgeries but still kept faith writing and producing another demo-album called “Before Tha Beginning” Then recorded it in his home studio well recovering. After Joe recovered he got back the momentum and went into a mode to succeed as an independent artist under his own label.
Finally by 2008 Joe had written, produced, and recorded six demo–albums and one professional album that was in the vault waiting to get mixed and mastered. Also during that time he had another three kids which added up to four kids all together, and in an independent label he was running by himself. But if you where ask Joe do you still want to be a super star rapper he would he would say that he is much more than just a rapper he is a pioneer of Canadian underground Hip Hop and is as hungry as he was when he first started recording.
